You made the sale, the buyer got the package, and yet your money is just… sitting there marked on hold. Nothing feels worse than earning cash you can’t touch. Good news: on Mercari, a payment hold is almost always temporary, and usually there’s a simple reason behind it.
Why your payment is on hold
Mercari holds your funds until the transaction is confirmed complete. In plain terms, the money releases when the buyer rates the order – or, if they go quiet, when the auto-rating kicks in after the review window closes (commonly around 72 hours from confirmed delivery). Until then, your balance shows the sale as pending. Holds can also happen if the buyer rated before delivery, if a return window is still open, or if your account is under review.
How to get your funds moving
- Confirm the item shows as delivered with tracking. No delivery scan, no release.
- Rate the buyer promptly – your side of the rating helps close the loop.
- If the buyer forgot to rate, wait out the auto-rating window and it completes on its own.
- If it’s an account-review hold, that clears when the review finishes, not when you nudge it.
