eBay told sellers on October 20 that its balance program, which used to be called Spendable Funds, becomes the default for eligible US sellers on November 4. The part that will surprise people is what happens to your payout schedule.
What is changing
- Eligible US individual and business sellers in good standing are enrolled automatically after identity verification. Sellers registered in New Mexico are excluded.
- If you are on daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly payouts, you get switched to on-demand. Your scheduled options are still there, but you have to turn your preferred frequency back on yourself.
- Daily payouts turn off on-demand withdrawals. Weekly, biweekly, and monthly schedules can be combined with on-demand.
- You cannot leave the balance program and keep selling. Closing the balance means closing your eBay account.
- The old fixed spending limits are gone. eBay now sets dynamic limits it can raise or lower.
- Funds marked On Hold no longer count toward your balance until they move to Processing or Available.
- Any available funds still sitting there must transfer to your linked bank account no later than 330 days after your most recent sale if you have not withdrawn them.
- Balance funds earn no interest for you, and the balance is not a bank account or FDIC insured.
What to do before November 4
Take a look at your payout settings in Seller Hub, under Payments, in the Your Preferences section, and note what you have now. After enrollment, check that it still says what you want. If your rent or restocking money depends on a weekly deposit, you do not want to find out it switched to on-demand after the fact.
Two things worth watching: eBay has not said whether the settings screen will stay the same after the change, and the new terms say eBay can modify or discontinue scheduled payouts in the future with notice.
The bigger lesson
When one platform controls when you get paid, you feel every policy change in your cash flow. That is a good reason to keep your inventory spread across several marketplaces instead of leaning on just one. Nifty makes that easy: list once, sell everywhere, and let sale detection handle the rest.
Want to see how I keep my shop running while I sleep? The AI Reselling Playbook is where I show you how I let AI run the boring parts of my business.
Nifty keeps your inventory in sync. What it does not do is match your eBay payouts, refunds, and fees back to your sales so your numbers still tie after the payout schedule resets. An AI assistant can do that reconciliation for you, and the brief for it is in the Playbook.
Bottom line
Check your payout settings, set your schedule back the way you like it, and keep your sales spread out. Do less, earn more.
