You want to sell on Etsy, but that “Add a listing” screen has more boxes than a tax form. Photos, tags, categories, attributes, shipping profiles – it is a lot for something you just want live and earning.

First, set up your shop
Before you can list, Etsy needs the basics: a shop name, your location and currency, and a payment method so you can actually get paid. You will also put a billing card on file for fees. Knock this out once and you never touch it again.
The 9 steps to your first Etsy listing
- 1. Add your photos. Upload up to 10. Bright, clean, real. Your first photo is your thumbnail, so make it the strongest.
- 2. Add a video (optional). A short clip lifts trust and clicks. Even 5 seconds of the item turning helps.
- 3. Write your title. Lead with what a buyer would actually type – the item, not clever wordplay.
- 4. Pick your category and attributes. Color, size, material. These feed search, so fill in everything that applies.
- 5. Set your price and quantity. Price to cover fees and still profit (more on fees in another post).
- 6. Write your description. Answer the buyer’s questions before they ask – condition, measurements, what is included.
- 7. Add your tags. All 13. Use the exact phrases shoppers search, not single words.
- 8. Set your shipping. Build a shipping profile with your weight and processing time. Reuse it forever.
- 9. Publish. Hit the button. Your listing is live for four months or until it sells.
