Relisting is deleting your stale listing and posting it again as a new one. Mercari’s search loves fresh listings, so the new version starts higher up where people actually look. Same item, same photos, brand new visibility. It’s one of the cheapest tricks in reselling – it costs you nothing but a few minutes.
How to relist the right way
The manual version is straightforward:
- Open the listing and save or screenshot the details so you don’t lose your description.
- Delete the old listing.
- Create a new one with the same photos and info.
- Tweak the title slightly and consider a small price drop to sweeten it.
Timing matters. Don’t relist the same item every single day – Mercari discourages excessive reposting and buyers notice. A good rhythm is giving an item a few weeks before you refresh it. Relist your stale stuff, not your fresh stuff.
Don’t confuse relisting with promoting
Mercari also has a Promote button that permanently drops your price a little and nudges you up in search. That’s different from relisting. Relisting resets the whole listing to “new”; promoting just tweaks the price on the existing one. Both have their place – use relisting for truly stale items and promoting for a quick nudge.
