Poshmark used to quietly eat the extra postage when a package went over 5 pounds. As of October 26, that protection is gone, and the cost now comes out of your earnings. If you sell coats, boots, or bundles, this one is for you.
What changed
Poshmark no longer covers overweight label upgrades. If a package weighs more than 5 pounds and you ship it without upgrading the label first, money gets deducted from your earnings:
- 5.01 to 10 lbs: $5 deducted
- 10.01 to 15 lbs: $10 deducted
- 15.01 to 25 lbs: $15 deducted (upgrades are not offered above 15 lbs, so this applies even with a single label)
- Over 25 lbs: the full USPS shipping cost is deducted
The upgrade rates themselves did not change. Poshmark has not said why it ended the protection, and it is not clear whether the $15 deduction covers the full extra postage on those heavy packages. This comes right after Poshmark also stopped subsidizing the USPS hazardous materials fee, so sellers now carry that full $50 penalty too.
Who gets hit hardest
Winter coats, boots, denim stacks, and multi-item bundles all creep past 5 pounds faster than you would think. A $5 deduction on a $25 sale is a fifth of your money.
The cost of checking by hand
Here is the math nobody wants to do. A catalog of 1,000 listings, at 30 seconds each to double check the weight, is a little over 8 hours. And that is for one marketplace. It is not a one-time job either, because your catalog keeps growing and the rules keep moving. It feels productive because you are busy the whole time, but it creates nothing and nobody pays you for it. Weekends quietly disappear into it.
The smarter fix
This is exactly why I list with Nifty. You build the listing once with the details right, and it goes out to every marketplace from there, with sale detection keeping everything in sync when something sells. Accurate details at the start beat chasing fixes later.
Want the full system for running your shop on autopilot? The AI Reselling Playbook is where I show you how I let AI run the boring parts of my business.
Nifty handles the listing and the crosslisting. What it does not do is go through your whole catalog and flag every item sitting close to one of Poshmark’s new weight lines, with the dollar cost of each. That is a job for an AI assistant, and I give you the exact brief for it in the Playbook.
Bottom line
Poshmark moved a shipping cost onto sellers, and it is only going to matter more as the holidays bring heavier packages. Know your weights, price with them in mind, and do less busywork so you can earn more.
