Whatnot’s New Tiered Commission Rates: What You Will Actually Pay

Whatnot changed how it charges sellers. Instead of one flat commission, your rate now depends on how much you sold recently. Bigger sellers pay less. But not everyone comes out ahead.

How the new tiers work

  • The new structure started September 21, 2026 for existing sellers. New sellers moved over the week of September 28.
  • Your total sales across all categories in a four-week period set your tier. That tier sets your rates for the next four weeks.
  • Your tier resets every four weeks, so you have to keep selling to keep a lower rate.
  • The standard US commission stays at 8% for most categories when you sell under $15,000 in four weeks. Hit $15,000 and you get a percentage point off, with lower rates as you climb past $250,000.
  • Whatnot says custom rates can go as low as 3% for its biggest sellers.
  • Payment processing of 2.9% plus 30 cents still applies on the full order, including shipping and tax.

There is nothing to sign up for. Hit the next threshold and the lower rate kicks in automatically at the start of your next period.

Who might pay more

Premier Shop sellers had a 10% discount on top of their commission, and that perk ends October 31. So some lower-volume Premier Shop sellers could actually pay more under the new system, even while high-volume sellers pay less.

For perspective, reaching $15,000 in a 28-day period means roughly $536 in completed sales every single day.

Why Whatnot did it

Lower rates for big sellers keep them streaming on Whatnot instead of moving to eBay Live, which has been cutting its own Live fees. Whatnot also says nearly one in five sellers now doing $15,000 or more in four weeks were under $5,000 just six months earlier.

The cost of tracking your tier by hand

Knowing what you really pay means adding up every sale in the period, figuring out your tier, then applying the right rate by category. Across 1,000 sales, at about 15 seconds each, that is roughly four hours per four-week period. With 13 periods a year, you are looking at more than 50 hours of math.

The smarter fix

Nifty lists once and sells everywhere, with sale detection keeping stock clean across marketplaces. What it does not do is total your Whatnot sales by period, tell you which tier you are in, and show what you actually paid per sale. An AI assistant can do that from your sales export, and the brief for it is in the Playbook.

Bottom line

If you are near $15,000 in four weeks, the new tiers can save you real money. If you are a smaller Premier Shop seller, check your numbers after October 31. Do less, earn more.
